Thanks for the kind words, but I think we're all special in some way. I listen to musicians all the time who can do things I'll never be able to do, so it would be hard to lose my humility with all the amazing musicians in the world. Even some of my students have abilities I don't have, and there's a lot I could learn from them.
That being said, I'm glad I'm me, even though I have much room to improve. The only thing about me that seems to be "special" is that I don't like any particular kind of music any more than another, and I think most musicians do. They play a purer form of the music they like, whereas I'm more of a jack of all trades and master of none. I guess a lot of people think of me as a jazz musician because I play instrumental music and can solo over chord changes, but I'm just a blues-rock guitarist who's influenced by funk, R&B, pop, jazz, country, prog-rock, classical - I love it all. It's only natural that all those influences show up in the music I write. I guess that's special... weird is more like it.
