Would like to know your opinion on my record of that masterpiece, guys:
http://www.mediafire.com/?9agez4ztcym

could only play it at 180 bpm though. Embarassed
If anyone's got decent backing tracks of Scott or Mike Landau
I'd exchange the one I made (in 180 or 200 bpm).
Got only one at the moment but plan to do Dolemite next if I have time.

First of all the substitute for the barks was .... spot on... geniusly - self-deprecatingly-obvious-and-ironic... but genius all the same. I laughed out loud and had to explin what was funny to my wife.

Nice tone... a pretty lovely version with a laid back groove, in some ways I prefer but maybe that's my long-suppressed-teenage-jealous-guitarist getting burned up at Scott's version, I mean Jiboom just lacks soul and is fast... maybe a bit of trill on notes around 4:18

I do love this tune there's a batch of blues tunes around this progression and tempo ... I'd add Jiboom by Vai and most definitely Scutlebuttin' by Stevie Ray Vaughn... or is there a genre for it and I just don't know it Embarassed

Cheers, Frankus!
Well, substitute for the barks was pretty obvious for me ' cos unlike Scott I like cats more. But I wish I could be more original and improvise in blues as incredibly as the man.... not yet, all I can do is just copy so far. my phrases sound just plain stupid - you can see it in the coda, that's another part that's not played like Scott. So I guess I gotta practice 24/7 to get any close to that. Used to like Vai too when I was teenage until I heard Scott's Illicit which immediately turned me into jazz fusion. No offence but I think Vai has absolutely shitty tone compared to Scott's and Landau's. Anyway, gotta check the tracks you're talking about.

None taken, I don't even think of tone being a quality that Vai explores, a bit like a painter might explore hue whereas someone making fireworks wants the most garish colours to contrast each other. I'm not a great Vai fan... when stocking my iPod I actually found about 4 tracks out of 5 CDs that I found listenable.

Improvs an odd thing to hone, Blues is about collecting licks from others and mutating them isn't it though?

Thanks, yoni! Actually there are some small rhythmic differences 'cos let's face it - no one can play it exactly like the original.
The strings are .010-.050.
Man, I can't bend .011 a major 3rd up!!!!!
That's very very hard. Also very hard to play it 200 bpm instead of 180, but possible. just needs to be practiced. Only there's no point anymore 'cos there 're more great Scott's tunes to transcribe!
I'm also into Landau's 2006 Live very much, check this out guys.

I loved it! You did a great job with that tune. Many of the covers I hear on the net have the right notes in the right places, but the feel is completely missing. You pegged the groove and the tone, even while slowing it down a bit. I don't miss the faster tempo at all. Congratulations!

Awesome! I love it - you nailed it!

I'd love the backing track. Maybe I'll wank over it a bit too.

What gear were you using. Your tone is fabulous. Sound just like Scott's.

Thanks guys! Actually I expected more criticism so I'm happy you liked it.
I used DBX 376 tube channel strip as preamp+A/D converter and Guitar Rig 2 software.
to Rotren:
I'd gladly exchange for another play along of Scott's bluesband tunes (or Landau).
I would've just uploaded it if was something I found on the net but I spent a couple of days making it so...
What can I say.. Get youself a copy of Сubase (for example) and let's make some more minus ones to exchange and enjoy!!!
I may change my mind later though and give it free.
