|
|
i read that your strats' tone controls are bypassed at switch positions 2 & 4 --which i assume are: 2 = bridge + middle; 4 = middle + neck (or vice versa), so my questions is, do you ever play those positions?
that maybe the wrong question, here's why i ask:
i ask because i (too?) grew up liking and playing the same type pickup/amp setup (what i like to call the classic Santana [and others (Cream), although Carlos was on a Gibson - 3 way toggle; what i mean is that switching back and forth (Carlos: rhythm <-> treble) even during a certain line, perhaps going to [Gibson] treble as you descend (lower notes) and, well, vice versa --a nice trick with the right stuff.
so, you can see where i'm going with my question: it seems to me that the 2 & 4 (no tone control) would be too radically different... then again, maybe that bypass is a lot darker that i suspect.
could you talk about that a bit, please?
the old Carlos wha-wha "set" comes to mind as well, i say too much. lol.
my name is Ted and i am from Va. Beach, VA.
THANKS! |

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking, but part of your question has already been answered in the Stickys.
Why do you bypass tone in 2/4 switch position in your guitar?
Quote:
Because I roll the tone knob for my treble pickup down to about 3. With a regular wiring, if I wanted a bright funky position 4 sound, I'd have to roll that tone pot up to 10 and then down to 3 again when I want to solo on the treble pickup alone. With the tones disconnected in 2 and 4, the tone for the treble pickup can stay on 3. Most guys like the tones all the way up for 2 and 4 anyway, because those positions are usually used for bright funky tones. _________________ Current obsessions:

You can definitely hear Scott playing those cool funky positions in various songs and I think they blend very well with the other positions...

Bummer Scott would rather not answer questions anymore but I can see why. Lots of questions started to get repeated quite often. Take care Scott... |

That's an interesting mod. Any idea where a wiring diagram of this set up could be found ? |

Here you go:
Note that you need a bigger switch for that wiring, not the standard one.
Have fun |
