Hey everyone, I'm completely new here so I have no idea how this works yet, But My name is Jordan and I play in the band Mindwalk Blvd:

YYZ - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ta5GtIs2sWE (This was indeed a while ago haha)

Original stuff - http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=82856755 (some newer stuff)

Obviously I'm a big fan of Scott/Guthrie/Bumblefoot/Lane/Holdsworth/Tatum/ guys like that,

but I literally have no footing in music theory at all, I really want to find a system to translates directly to guitar playing, so if you guys could suggest some book/dvd choices, I'd seriously appreciate it!

Hope to hear back from some of you..

The Doug Doppler DVD "Diatonic THeory and Harmony" is a good start. You can find it on AMazon, or Guitar 411.

So, what do you want to know? We can start a dialogue.

One thing I'd recommend:

Learn the Major Scale, and how to Harmonize it.

Here's something that might help to get you started:

Code:
The MAJOR SCALE PATTERN

W = Whole Step = 2 Frets.
EX: A to B = Whole Step

H = 1/2 Step = 1 Fret
EX: A to A# = 1/2 Step

The Major Scale Pattern Is A Pattern Of Notes That Span 1 Octave.

The First Note Is Called The ROOT Note. This Names The Scale.
EX: G Is The ROOT Of The G Major Scale.

Between Each Note, There Is An Interval (Distance) Of A Whole Step (2 Frets), Or A 1/2 Step (1 Fret).

There Are 7 Different Notes In The Pattern.
The 8th. Note Is The OCTAVE Note.

The Pattern Of Notes Is Very Specific.
Here It Is: W W H W W W H
(STOP NOW AND COMMIT THIS PATTERN TO MEMORY!)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----3---5---7---8---10---12---14---15-----------------------------------------
Above Is The G Major Scale, Starting On The E String, 3rd. Fret.

Here are the INTERVALS of the Major Scale Pattern:

------|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----------------------------------
------|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----------------------------------
------|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----|-----------------------------------
------|-----|-----|-----|---2-|---4-|---5-|-----------------------------------
------|---2-|---3-|---5-|-----|-----|-----|-----------------------------------
-3--5-|-3---|-3---|-3---|-3---|-3---|-3---|-----------------------------------
2nd.   3rd.  4th.  5th.  6th.  7th.  Octave

Here are 3 different ways to play a G Major Scale:

--------------------------------------------2--3--|---------------------------
-------------------------------------3--5---------|---------------------------
---------------------------2--4--5----------------|---------------------------
-----------------2--4--5--------------------------|---------------------------
--------2--3--5-----------------------------------|---------------------------
--3--5--------------------------------------------|---------------------------

Above, play with POS.II Fingering. (Finger/Fret 1/2 2/3 3/4 4/5)

----------------------------------------------------5--7--8--|----------------
------------------------------------------5--7--8------------|----------------
--------------------------------4--5--7----------------------|----------------
----------------------4--5--7--------------------------------|----------------
------------3--5--7------------------------------------------|----------------
--3--5--7----------------------------------------------------|----------------
  I  M  P   I  M  P   I  M  P  I  M  P   I  R  P   I  R  P = FINGERING For Above Pattern

------------------------------------------------------7--8--10--12--14--15-|--
-----------------------------------------5--7--8/10------------------------|--
--------------------------------4--5--7------------------------------------|--
--------------------2--4--5/7----------------------------------------------|--
----------2--3--5----------------------------------------------------------|--
