Hey Scott
I am in the market for a combo amp.
I love fenders
Obviously I will have to try a bunch to make up my mind for my style but I wanted to get your input too.
1. You chose a hot rod deluxe with a speaker swap.
Did you try out various other combo amps and like it the most---like the boogie stuff and older fender combos etc. Or did you just like it and go with it without much ABing.
2. What are some of the characteristics that you like about the hrd?
I tried the HRD when I was on tour in Italy. It had a 65 in it because the owner realized that the speaker which comes in it sucks. I only use it when playing straight ahead jazz gigs, which isn't that often, so I didn't want to spend much money - I bought mine at Guitar Center in LA for 450 bucks. One of the main reasons I chose it was because it has an FX loop which works exactly like the one in my SH-100, so I can use my same setup, just with a small amp.
I'm sure there are better combo's out there, like for example the Badger 35. It's a far better amp for blues, but it's class A and doesn't work for what I do.
Just remember that there's a huge difference between class A and class AB amps - totally different animals. There seem to be more class A combo's on the market than class AB, I don't know why.
