Hi Scott, in your previous post you mentioned your recording setup :
Shure 57 mics, Brent Averill 1272 Mic Pre, Apogee Rosetta 800, Symphony 16 card, Mac running Digital Performer 7, PreSonus Central Station, Dynaudio BM15A Monitors, Dynaudio BM14S Sub Woofer, and the studio walls have Primacoustic Broadway 2" panels on them, about 30% coverage in the studio and 40% coverage in the room where I mic the cabs. That's the audio part - my midi gear is less pro since it's only for writing and practicing. I use an M-Audio Oxygen 8 keyboard, MOTU Micro Express midi interface, Korg M1R, and Yamaha QY100 (for drums only).
is there any change now?\
what spesific type of tour mac?like macbook pro 13 inch 2.5 GHz?
Thx alot Scott |

The 1272 was replaced by a 1073, DP is up to 8.06 now, with some nice improvements, and I got a new Mac Pro because I want to record at 96 and my previous Mac Pro was pretty sluggish, even at 48. Since everything is Thunderbolt now, the Symphony card had to be replaced by a Thunderbridge.
My Micro Express stopped working when I got the new Mac because USB 3 isn't compatible with USB 1, so I got a cheap USB 2 FastLane since I only have two midi devices.
The new album sounds really great - everything sounds bigger and more open at 96. I wish I could've recorded my other albums that way, but my old computer couldn't cut it. _________________ www.online-discussion.com |

I don't know the difference between the old and new 57, but every engineer I know tells me that the new ones sound better. My 57's are about a year old, made in Mexico I think.
I still have my Rosetta 800, and I use Maestro for monitoring, with the Apogee ThunderBridge. |

I use Mogami Gold mic cable - you can get it at Guitar Center. The ends are already there so I'm not sure what they use - probably Switchcraft.
My Mac Pro is the new cylinder - it has 8 cores. It's a little overkill, because the processor bar hardly ever moves, but we'll see how it goes when I start adding a million plug-ins.
Yes I still have the Central Station. It's just a rack space volume control for my monitors, which don't have one. The Apogee goes directly into the Central Station and then to the monitors. One tip - if you get one, don't use the extra cable with the remote volume knob - audio actually passes through that cable and the sound is better without it. My Central Station is close enough to me that it's no problem to reach the volume knob on the unit. |

Hi Scott , i'm really2 sorry to ask you so many2 questions because for me you have the greatest guitar sounds in the world (besides greatest phrasing too) so i'm really curious for what you use
please let me ask the last 3 questions :
1. i have go to guitar center website and found 3 mogami gold mic :
1.mogami gold stage mic cable with neutrik xlr connectors
2.mogami gold neglex quad mic cable for studio with neutrik xlr
3.mogami gold studio 1/4" TRS-Female XLR Cable
which one you use in your studio and stage ?
2. do you feel the length of mic cable effecting the tone ?
3. how long your mic cable? (2,3,6,15, 20,25 30 or 50 ft) ?
thx alooooot Scott |

I use #2 for mic cable, or anything that goes from XLR to XLR. The Central Station uses TRS so I had to have four custom cables made - L & R from the Apogee to the Central Station (those are short because it's all in a rack) and L & R from the Central Station to the monitors (about 6 feet). I just used the Mogami cable and had TRS plugs put on one end.
I don't carry live gear around anymore, except for my pedals and FX.
Yes if the mic cable is too long it can affect the tone - mine are 20 feet. I think the others are probably fine, but I wouldn't recommend 50. |
