What was your initial idea to compose "Calhoun"? What was your main inspiration ?

Thanks! It was more of a musical decision than inspiration - I just like country flavored songs and wanted a few on the record. On Well To The Bone it was Ashes and Hillbilly In The Band - on this one it's Calhoun and Dew Wut.

The chords just came from experimentation and I'm afraid I have no idea what I'm doing. Just going for sounds I hear.

Something I should say that might come off as cold, but I don't believe much in inspiration. It's too easy to use the lack of it as an excuse not to work. I'm afraid that if I waited to be inspired, I'd never get anything done, so I look at it as a job. I wake up, have some coffee and go to work, whether I'm inspired or not. I've written some stuff I really like when I wasn't in the mood to write at all. No matter what mood I'm in, something good happens if I'm patient enough to wait for it.

What I meant was if you got "inspired" by some particular song by another artist or something like that. It happens, right ?

Yes, I'm inspired anytime I hear great music. If I wasn't inspired as a kid by Led Zeppelin, I wouldn't have become a musician in the first place.

I just have to be careful about being too inspired by a song, or my song might end up sounding too much like it.
