Great!

I knew I couldn't put out the play-along version of Vibe Station without guitar charts, but I doubt if anyone has ever read them. I know I couldn't! I actually have rough versions of TAB for the songs which were kindly done by Petja Lepola, one of my students, but I never got around to correcting them. At least the chord changes are there...

As the worst reader ever, I'm glad to see I'm in good company.

That's a great sketch!
Scott - how did you go about learning difficult written parts for example when you were playing with Chick?

Sight reading on guitar is so difficult IMO. Probably one of the most difficult instruments in that respect.

I have trouble sight reading heads from the Real Book, let alone some heavy jazz fusion tunes...

Luckily I've never had to sightread on a gig. Every bandleader I've worked for gave me the music on cassette or CD weeks before the rehearsal or recording. I can learn and memorize a tune by ear much faster than using a chart.

Here's a tip - never learn a new piece of music with your instrument. Memorize the tune first, by listening to it as much as you need to - I usually do that while I'm driving. After you have it completely memorized, then take out your instrument. It's so much easier to learn because now it's only about the fingerings.
