Hello Scott,

I'm familiar with your opinion on many guitar players out there, from those who happen to be personal friends of yours - e.g. Landau, Holdsworth - to other greats who you hadn't had the chance to meet, such as Van Halen, Hendrix, Jeff Beck, or SRV.

I assume that you do not spend much time listening to guitar albums nowadays, but since that you are kind enough to chat with us fans about pretty much everything, I would like to throw some names out there and see what you got to say about their playing, careers etc. (only if you're into it of course)... here they are:

Gary Moore
Eric Gales
Steve Lukather
George Benson
Oz Noy
Greg Koch
Andy Timmons
Doyle Bramhall II
John Mayer
Philip Sayce
T.J. Helmerich
Zakk Wylde
Frank Marino
Allen Hinds
Jimmy Herring
Sonny Landreth
Danny Gatton
Chris Poland
The Edge
Tim Miller

Greetings from Greece,
Andreas.

P.S.: "Vibe Station" was special. One by one, all your personal albums remain influential and truthfully represent your evolution as a musician. I personally adore them all.

And last but not least, I'm aware of the fact that writing lyrics is not something you would like to repeat in the future (you could give the job to somebody else I guess), but from a music lover standpoint, your collaboration with Thelma Houston was one for the ages. I'm not suggesting a return to your bluesier stuff (not at all - although one tune per album with Thelma or another singer of her caliber would be a great treat Very Happy), I just wanted to point out that you two had a serious match there... one that fit your music, and deserved greater attention from the music world.

I too would love to know what Scott thinks about those players but have you tried doing a search on those players or looking at the index? Might be a good start. Also it might take Scott a while to respond to all the players listed so maybe try 3 at a time? I'm pretty sure Scott responded to a question about Oz, but I can't remember what he said. I think it was along the lines of "I've heard OF him but ever heard his music". I could be wrong though...

Best,
Chris

You could give me the name of any guitarist I've heard, and I could tell you things I like and don't like about his playing, myself included. However I don't want to share those opinions with the public since I'm not a music critic. I can say that every guitarist you mentioned is a good player and there are things I like about them.

I like working with singers, especially Thelma - she's bad ass. The music I'm writing now is helping to further develop my own voice on the guitar, and I hope I have the creativity to come up with another album like Vibe Station without being derivative. It's a challenge to write for guitar trio so that's where my head is right now, but who knows, maybe a vocal record is in the future.
