They sound very similar. The reason I love the new RC Booster more than any other boost is because it can do both high and low gain, and it has a bass knob. I always turn down the bass to about 10 o' clock, because it's not really bass, but low mids. When it's flat, the notes on the wound strings are too woofy and I hate that sound. If you have your guitar tone on 10 all the time it's not an issue - any boost will work. I roll the tone on my bridge pickup down to 3 or 4, and the neck down to about 7 or 8. Then boost pedals which can produce enough gain for a solo become unusable for me, including the Suhr. The LA Sound Design Boost is my favorite boost for chords - it has about as much gain as the Vertex Boost, but I like the way it's voiced more and it makes the notes sound huge. No other boost I've ever heard sounds as good for low gain.
