Scott,
I have to ask you about Thelma Houston. I always wondered if your Thelma Houston is the very same Thelma Houston that I know, who sang "Don't leave me this way" and all the disco stuff. Wikipedia says so, but you can not always trust wikipedia.
If she's the same Thelma, I'll never be able to listen to her hits without thinking of her shouting "Oh you're a big fat couch-sittin' sport-watchin' alky Corona's by the keg".
How did you get to hang with her?
By the way, did you write the lyrics to "I hate you" ? Did you use you personal experience, hers, both?
Yes, that's THE Thelma Houston. I met her because our bass player at the time, John Humphrey, had worked with her on another project. When I gave Thelma the music, she was excited to do it because it was very different than the music she usually sings on.
The lyrics for "I Hate You" are inspired by everyone's relationships. BTW, Thelma and Masta's performance on that tune is a first take!
