Hi Scott
I saw your SH 100 has aluminum chassis .Is there a difference in tone ?Sound different than steel?
Or it just the weight?
I know that old jtm 45 s are from aluminum too.
I don't think it affects the tone - it sounds exactly like my '71 Marshall which has a steel chassis. John was just doing me a favor by making it lighter so I could fly with it, but that only lasted a few years. Back then I was paying about 60 bucks a flight to take it as extra luggage - these days it would be more like 600, but most airlines have serious weight restrictions and would never let it on board.
Every tour there seems to be more flights and less van, so I can't even claim to be a Suhr amp endorser anymore - on most of my gigs I'm playing a rented Marshall JCM 2000, which isn't the worse amp in the world but it's no SH-100.
Thanks Scott .
I tried to find your amp in Suhr.com website but i cant find the model or any info.
Is it the second channel of the od 100?i have the 3se+ preamp .it sounds close to the 2 channel of the preamp?
Is the gain more in the cae preamp?
I asked John why they took it off the site and he said very few people are interested in single channel 100 watt heads. Whatever... they'll still make one if someone orders it.
It's the crunch channel of an OD-100, but with a '71 Marshall layout and no buttons or switches. It's an extremely simple amp, that's one of the reasons it sounds so good. The preamp would be comparable to channel 2 on the 3+. I don't know if it has more or less gain because I haven't played a 3+ in many years.
