Hi Scott!

Really looking forward to your new CD.

Have you stopped using the open back 4x12 live?

Why?

Cheers

Fabian

Yes, I sold both my open back 4x12 cabs and I'm back to using closed back 4x12's. It's kind of a trade off - the closed back is more directional, so if it's pointing at the sound man, he asks me to turn down. However the closed back sounds bigger - more bass, and also more ambiance, so it's easier to play legato because the notes are more diffused.

The open back sounds great in small clubs because the ambience of the room makes up for the cabinet sounding so dry. The reason I made the change is because I've been playing a lot of outdoor festivals in Europe, where the open back sounds like speakers mounted on a board. Even in a big club or theatre it can sound dry, and different rooms affect the tone more than the closed back, which sounds more consistent from night to night.
