I've been listening to Jimmy Herring's Project Z, which is a textbook of great playing, fresh writing, and outstanding humor. Really good stuff for all of us Scott Henderson fans. http://www.guitar9.com/projectz.html _________________ WTB: |

Hey Matt,
Jimmy Herring is killer.I love Project Z,also Endangered Species and his stuff with Jazz IS Dead. It's kinda sad though 'cuz a lot of people look down on him as being a part of the jam band scene and not real fusion.

I think I saw him getting coffee. If it was Jimmy, he was riding a hog. I wanted to scream out, "hey, Jimmy", but if it wasn't him I would have felt like a dork. Anyway, I'd give my left one to take lessons from him. You're right Vlad, the Z is a killer album. I always respect those folks who make their own style of records, and this is a great individual one. Great tones too. Like Scott stuff, its the phrasing of Jimmy's that grabs me. _________________ WTB: |

Oz is great! Go to his site and check out his video clips of him playing live at the Bitter End in NYC. The ones with Kieth Carlock (sp?) on drums are really cool, he's a great drummer to watch! And of course Will Lee....
Oz is the master of quartal harmony lead playing!

Oz sounds great! Like a little Gatton/Henderson hybred but all his own style. Love the Octafuzz or whatever it is. Sounds like the same type of effect that Scott used on Stella... the harder version! Great stuff! _________________ WTB: |

Hiram Bullock is an excellent guitar player who has been around for a long time. Unfortunately, many of his albums are vocal-oriented, and lean in an R&B direction, but "Live At Manny's" and "Guitar Man" both feature some great playing.
He also played with Jaco in the 80's, and some of those gigs are available on the "Pastorius Live In NYC" cd's. The trio ones (V.2 and V.4) feature some incredible musicianship, despite the low-fi audio quality.

Don't know about Carlos, BUT I DO know Bill Connors has in fact returned to active recording recently with a new disc called "Return". It's a RADICALLY different sound for him, sort of makes me think of Pat Martino but with more soul, it's modern post-bop jazz with Bill now playing a big 'ol Gibson archtop (an L-5 I think) through a custom made amp, no effects.

IMO. Oz sounds like a John Scofield/Wayne Krantz hybrid. _________________ They're coming to get you Barbara!

That whole album should be dedicated to Scott and Tribal Tech circa 1990

Oz Noy is definitely killer...also check out Ned Evett. He's a fretless player; saw him on a PBS special. Great stuff. |
