We're fine and made it to Hong Kong. We had to cancel our gig the next day in Taipei but our agent was able to move it to the end of the tour.
We were extremely lucky in Sendai. If we had left for the gig just a half hour earlier, we would have been right in the middle of it. Instead, we had just pulled off the highway for gas about 30 miles away from Sendai when the earthquake hit. We stopped in a safe spot and stayed in the van - we thought it might tip over! Even though the quake lasted over a minute, it didn't seem that major to us because there was little damage to the gas station. We found out later on the radio how bad it was. We got a text from the club saying the gig was canceled, and that Sendai airport was closed, so we drove back to Tokyo, which is normally a 3 hour drive, but it took 19 hours. We got back to the hotel around 7AM and there were 20 people sleeping in the lobby - we got our rooms around 10. Tokyo seemed to be undamaged from what we could see, except for all the trains being shut down. So like you, we saw the real damage on the news and were very lucky to have not been part of it.
The next day, Narita airport was a total mess and we barely made our flight to Hong Kong. Now we're hearing about the nuclear problem in Japan and we're very concerned for all our friends there.
Oh, man, great to hear you guys are okay. It's so tragic what has happened. I have several friends in Japan and luckily they were in the south when this happened. _________________ Robert Renman
