Hey Scott,
In the past I had quite some trouble with my timing and playing in the pocket. I've worked on it quite a bit and it has improved very much but now when I listen to my playing, although it is tight, it sounds stiff and "quantized" for lack of a better word, it seems I "hold on" to the beat too much..
I was wondering if you have any tips on how to practice loosening up the timing so that it flows more but still is tight and swingin'?
I'm sorry but without actually hearing you play, I have no idea of what advice to give you. It seems like you should be able to listen to one of your favorite players who has a time feel you like, and try to emulate that style, and keep taping yourself until you feel like you're getting to where you want to be.
