Also, do you think there is much of a chance for an aspiring jazz fusion musician with how the entertainment industry is today- especially considering I live in a pretty jazz-remote area of the U.S. (Hawai'i)? I'm only 16 and have been playing guitar for a while, but I've always been enticed with the possibility of being a musician.
That's a multi-tap delay from my Boss SE-70. When you use a volume pedal, it makes that synth type sound. There's also some chorus from a pedal, the Arion SCH-1. There's a lot of info on how to get that sound on my message board - under INDEX, look in the Gear section.
Your second question is much more difficult. The music business is highly competitive and even famous players are finding it harder to get record deals and gigs. That doesn't mean it's hopeless, it's just harder to get started than it used to be. Your best bet is to try to get gigs with bandleaders who are already established - which means you have to be confident enough, and pro-active enough to make a demo CD and send it out to anyone you think might want to hire you. Keep in mind, there are a lot of great guitar players out there doing the same thing, so not to sound like a jerk, but I hope you're one of them.
