Hey Scott
I am still listening to your album. There is always more to hear. What a great album.

Do you ever have a hard time choosing solo takes? Like if you record 4 takes and you like 2. Do you have someone else who you trust who you play them for? Or is it sometimes just a coin flip?

I also thought of a funny book idea. I thought you would a appreciate the humor: "Free jazz licks: learn how to play free jazz in the style of Ornette Colman and John Zorn"

Thanks Scott

Thanks Dizzy! It's usually obvious which take is the best, but there are always phrases I hate. Sometimes I punch in to replace them, but what seems to work better is finding a phrase from another take which fits in there and makes musical sense. My time is always better when I play a solo all the way through as opposed to punching in.

There are plenty of musician friends I can call if I can't decide what to do when overdubbing or composing. They're happy to tell me which idea sucks the least.

I think Ornrette might freak if he heard his name mentioned with John Zorn! I'll take one of your books if it's free!

Ok, so I did a search on John Zorn and found this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ajl28OdWqtc

he doesn't play in it, but I thought the music was quite pleasant. It has little to do with jazz, but that's hardly a fault in and of itself ...

Or maybe I'm a musical Neanderthal. No, that would be insulting to Neanderthals!

That is his more "in" stuff. Check this out:

And scott: you are right. Ornette is in a different league. An important musician in jazz.

What about changing the meaning of free jazz to literally refer to all jazz because people are downloading every thing for free. "Scott,I like your new free jazz album."

Yes I suppose it's like comparing KISS to Black Sabbath, or McDonald's to high cuisine.

Comparing Black Sabbath to high cuisine is equally blasphemous Very Happy
