Hi Scott,
What guitar, amp/cab and pedal setup did you use for the Live! record?
Great tone on that!

Thanks! I was using an OD-100 Classic, and plugging my pedals (RC Booster and Maxon SD-9) into the crunch channel. The cabinet was my open back 4x12 with Greenbacks.

I'm curious how much you're using the SD9 vs the RC Booster on this record? Love your playing and tone on it too...

I used the RC Booster for most of the album, and only used the SD-9 on Sultan's Boogie, Meter Maid, the solo in Devil Boy, and the second half of the solo in Xanax when it changes keys. If I'm going to be playing a lot of chords or want a bluesy tone, I use the RC Booster - if I'm playing more legato single lines, I use the SD-9 because it's fatter and has more gain and compression.

So, the RC is never on at the same time or is it? If memory serves me correctly, you turn the RC OFF when using the SD9, right?

They're never on at the same time unless I want over the top distortion and feedback - they can create some hellish sounds when you combine them!

I always liked your playing on that record, even though I think you said you didn't like it that much.

I've always wondered about how the delay treatment of the guitar was and I could never find an answer on here. On "Slidin'" it sounds like your "on-stage" set up (4x12" with effects in the loop) is panned pretty hard to the left. Then there is a longer "wet only" delay panned hard right. Was this done in post production? Do you know the recipe to this secret sauce? It makes the mix sound gigantic in the trio context. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Travis! Yes, that's post production. Mike Landau mixed the record - sometimes he puts the guitar on one side and his FX on the other. He was using an old Ibanez analog delay pedal, and his Yamaha reverb, which does sound really huge.

Wow! I never would have thought it was an AD-9! I have one of the Maxon AD-9's lying around and I knew it was good for something.

Now I'll be able to sound like the pros! Thanks man!
