I planned on attending Allan's 4/10 performance in San Diego. For whatever reason, I didn't go. I thought I'd get an opportunity to see him in the near future since he was touring and promoting his new releases. RIP legato master...

During this difficult time, please consider assisting his family...

RIP Allan Holdsworth. The man who changed guitar forever. His influence on guitar playing was world changing and wide ranging. A truly innovative and all around great musician. He will be missed.

It's weird .. when you're so in tune with an artist's work and they speak to you so directly and for so long as Allan did for me - it feels like you've lost a really close family member. Allan was so awesome .. a huge talent, inspiration .. what a wonderful legacy he left behind. R.I.P. master.

The whole day has sucked... Allan is leaving a HUGE gap in the guitar world. I was lucky enough to meet him a couple times. I had sent him some music equipment back in the early 2000's and his 2005 Sam Ash clinic he's using the equipment I sent him. I met him shortly after I sent the equipment and he got up and hugged me once he knew who I was. He had called to thank me but this was our first meeting face to face.

I know some other people that were close to Allan and my heart goes out to them. Scott, when you are able to post something, I'm sure we'd all like to hear it but I'm respecting your time to process this too...

To me, we have lost the "Mozart" of the guitar world. Genius and no doubt a God among men...

Best,
Chris

Indeed, we lost a Mt. Rushmore guitarist. He definitely had his own thing going on, tonally, compositionally, harmonically and improvisationally. For me, it started with 'Fred' on Tony William's New Lifetime. Little did I know that was his wife's nickname.

Apparently, Jaco and Allan almost ended up playing together in that band. Probably better that it didn't happen.

I'm very sorry to hear that Allan passed away. I'm glad I got to see him at NAMM this year. It's a small community so I guess many people assume that Allan and I were close friends, but we hadn't had a conversation in 15 years before NAMM. He would sometimes call me, but always at 4AM when he knew I wouldn't answer the phone, and he never answered when I'd call him back.

He was a great and truly innovative guitarist - I wish he could've made more music.

I have more to say but not at this time. We all tell amusing Jaco stories now, but some time had to pass before they were funny.
