Hi!
Just wondering, does Mr. Scott or anyone else find it really depressing idea that all your guitar gear would be just a picture on the screen, all the knobs would be fiddled with a mouse and so on? I really do. Seem's we are going that way fast.
Sure it would be more eco-friendly than everybody having their 100w tube amps etc. But those compurters use a lot of power too. And as a bonus, you can keep the frost outside with a big old tube amp when it gets cold. No waste of energy then. No need to make more tube amps also. There should be more than enough already.
This may be happening among non-professionals, but most of the people I know making albums are still using tube amps and analog pedals. I sure am.
The amp modelers I've heard are a sad-ass replacement for real amps, and the people who say they sound great have obviously not had the experience of playing a great sounding amp. That being said, a good amp modeler beats a crappy amp any day of the week. It's all subjective, depending on what you've heard.
Good to know how things still are among pros. Maybe one explanation could be that all those who don't play very well and make quality albums have gotten so depressed with their laptop rig that they simply don't want to spend much time with it. I certainly wouldn't.
I think a quite good analogue to this computerization of guitar gear are those so called electronic girlfriends. They may sometimes sound very nice and sexy, but you do sure miss a lot when you can't touch them, smell them and even taste their niceness. In reality there are also really no tits in the computer world since It's all in 2D. So it's the fakest of the fakest fake tits.
