Yeah, so i work in a record store, and got a promo of the new Vai album today (a week early, hehe). I've only listened to it once, but i will tell you this:
If, like me, you do not care for Steve's "vocal stylings", and were not crazy about albums like the Ultra Zone or "Fire Garden", then you should be cautious before buying this one.
While of course there's some great guitar playing, too often on this record it is overshadowed by Steve's attempts at being "majestic". I can't think of any song where the meloday grabbed me. Also, for the first time ever with Steve's music, i was disappointed with a lot of the guitar sounds. Many of them have way too much of a "processed" feel to them.
Just my 2 cents, and like i said i've only listened to it once, but sometimes once is enough to know.
Disclaimer: if you love Steve Vai, and cherish everything he does, then by all means go get this album next tuesday- you'll love it!!!!!
