Hi Scott,

since i've been a student at MI (and your student), i'd like to ask your opinion about how GIT is now and how it was when you were a student:

1) do you think it's improved or is it easier, more music business oriented and less formative today?
2) do you keep your old curriculums? Do you know today's core classes curriculums and can you make a comparison between them? Are they easier, harder...?
3) If you think it's not as good as it used to be, what would you do to improve it if you were the owner?

Thanks a lot, i need your feedback so much, your opinion will help me improve my idea of teaching and the organization of my didactics.

That's a question I can't answer, because I've never been involved with the curriculum at the school, and have never been a classroom teacher. I do open counseling only, and as you know that's just about playing with the students and answering questions.

One thing I can tell you is that all music schools are dealing with a tough economy, so testing students to get in isn't as important as it used to be, which means more students on a beginner level. That being said, there are still a good amount of intermediate/advanced students.

When I went to GIT in 1980, it was a jazz school, completely different than it is today, so it's not even fair to make a comparison.

If a student is on a very advanced level, I wouldn't recommend any music school, but a private teacher. The majority of students who come to my open counseling are experienced players who are trying to improve their ability to play over changes.
