Hi Scott, first of all thank you for all the wonderful music you have given us throughout the years and for all the Inspiration. I would like to know if you've had any experience with Mesa Boogie amps? and if so what is your take on them??
I used a Mesa Boogie Quad preamp and Studio preamp with a Boogie 295 power amp on a few of the old Tribal Tech records. At that time I thought it sounded good, but I don't anymore when compared to a vintage Marshall or Fender head (or Suhr versions of them). I've also used the Rectifier head and thought it was the most "normal" head they make - everything else I've tried from Boogie was very midrangy with very little bass. They make a 4x12 cabinet with a speaker board that's twice as thick as a normal speaker board - the cab has no bass whatsoever. I honestly don't have a very high opinion of their company and think of them as "the midrange lovers". Also their gear seems to be very heavy - I don't think they realize that light cabinets sound much better than heavy ones.
