Hey Scott, I’m building a pedalboard and I need to decide between a Maxon SD-9 and a Black Cat OD-1 (aka Freddie Fuzz). Any thoughts/experiences with the Black Cat? Thanks! |

I've never tried one but it sounds great in this video:

It's probably not as good for the neck pickup with high gain as the SD-9 - I don't know another high gain pedal that is, and that's why it's been on my board for about 15 years. The Black Cat is a fuzz so it's a completely different animal anyway, but I'm tempted by this video to get one. |

Wow Scott, when I made that video ages ago, I never thought it'd make you want you to pick up any gear! Pleased to return the favour, I've bought a lot of gear thanks to you
FWIW both sides of the pedal sound great with the Badger, OD-100 Classic Plus and an old JMP that Suhr modded for me. It definitely likes running into a dirty amp, but I've used it boosting a SD9 into a clean amp and it sounded good that way too. |
