Hi Scott.
We’ve had a previous discussion on this never fully covered topic.
You suggested to focus on the chinese greenback, to give my JTM 45 (bass coiced) style plexi a proper voice.
Meantime I happened to hook up my rig (head + Fryette Power Station I normally use to tame my exuberant plexi) to a 4x12 Orange sturdy cab equipped with 4 Vintage 30s, and I was blown away with what I heard!
Crispy bass, smooth but cutting through the mix mids and silky highs. This is what I’m after, I said to myself.
Getting back to some internet forums the days after, just to get sone different point of views on Orange cabs, I hit a whole crowd of guitar players spreading enthusiastic opinions on their Orange cabs, including the UK made 212 CB (closed back).
Given the fact that I normally do not play that loud to to fall in that ‘cone crying’ territory you mentioned, what I experienced was that the thinner paper used in V30 cone, along with the sturdy, rugged (and heavy) and renowned cab built resulted in the perfect match with my head, which being bass voiced is a little bit darker that other plexis I have plaied before.
Do you have any experience with Orange cabs, and specifically the 212 (I couldn’t afford moving around the 412 monster!)? Ehat arr your thoughts on the match Orange + V30s?

Sorry, I've never played through an Orange cab and don't know anything about them. I'm a big fan of Kerry Wright cabs and that's all I've used for many years. Vintage 30's aren't my thing, but I don't hate them - they're my second choice on the road if they can't find cabinets with Greenbacks. Sometimes I play loud enough to hear the cone cry they make and it drives me crazy, but aside from that it's a good sounding speaker.
