I'm pretty much into blues rock and that's actually how I found this awesome artist. Some really good blues rock with some jazz and fusion influences. So basicly I'm looking for something similar, with the same fusion stuff. And blues guitar, I just love that sound. Feel free to post me plenty of suggestions, I've time to check them out. =) |

Hi Dan,
Welcome to the group! As you know by now, Robben is a rare commodity, but take a listen to Garth Webber and Chris Cain for starters. You might also like Ronnie Earl. I have heard Ronnie play with Robben and they complimented each other very well.

No one mentioned Larry Carlton?
Pretty much everyone I know who listens to Robben, like Larry too.

I've got to second the recommendation of Matt Schofield. He has a lot of similarity with Robben in that he weaves in a lot of jazz ideas into the blues. He quickly became one of my favorite guitarists. _________________ "Somebody's got to make some music around here." - Robben Ford |

I have to agree 100% with the above. I bought Matt Schofield's Live cd on a whim due to reviews, and within minutes of my first listen, I thought "Robben Ford" style and sound.
And, I still highly recommend Joe Bonamassa, especially live (in person), and his Blues Deluxe studio album. His latest, Sloe Gin, is excellent as well. But, if you can't see him live, he's got a couple of live cds that are outstanding. Lastly, his Rockplast dvd is great entertainment and one for the home library... _________________ Soul on Eleven |

Since Johnny and I are so agreeable today, I'll also agree with the Joe Bonamassa recommendation. I'm a big fan of his as well. He's got more of a rock thing going on with his blues, but he can play the blues with the best of them. Blues Deluxe is very bluesy (shocking, I realize) and one of my favorites of his. His stuff just keeps getting better and better. _________________ "Somebody's got to make some music around here." - Robben Ford |

I just picked up Bonamassa's "Live From Nowhere In Particular" live double-CD (my first Bonamassa purchase). Good stuff. Certainly more in the "rock" vein than most of Robben's work, but worth checking out.
I really like the mix of song styles. Joe's a good singer, as well as being a very tasty guitar player. |
